David
Gallup is one of Southern California's most exciting young painters.
He is Vice-President of the historic California Art Club and through
his leadership of a number of arts organizations he has helped to
further popularize plein-air painting in the Southland. While his
artistic reputation was built on his atmospheric landscapes, Gallup
is also a talented figuratve painter who paints commissioned portraits
and models in outdoor settings. Gallup's paintings are moody and contemplative
and he is especially drawn to sunsets and nocturnes. In recent months
he has continued to paint "en plein-air" along the Malibu
coast, a subject that has been of enduring interest to him for a number
of years. Gallup has also been painting the sublime natural phenomena
of Yellowstone for an upcoming museum exhibition. His works have been
featured in Art of the West
and other publications. Blessed with a ready smile and
a charismatic nature, Gallup is a popular teacher. In the future,
when the history of what may be described as the "California
Plein-Air Revival" is written, Gallup will surely be considered
one one of its major figures. |
