Apinchapong Yang has an inner need to express his emotions through
his paintings. Following his own muse, he moves rapidly from genre
to genre, from landscapes to still lifes to portraitur. Yang's work
is expressive, but this expressiveness is tempered by years of intense
training. He had a B.A. from Art Center College of Design and an M.A.
from California State University, Los Angeles when he began his studies
with the Russian master Sergei Bongart (1918 - 1985) in 1978. Bongart
became the young artist's teacher and mentor and introduced Yang to
the emphasis on natural light and the vigorous brushwork that is characteristic
of Russian Impressionism. Yang was born in Thailand to chinese parents
who had settled there during the Second World War. He moved to Los
Angeles to attend college and now lives in Southern Californis with
his wife Penny and his two children. |
