Classical
Realism is a term that has come into use to describe the works of
contemporary artists who have been inspired and influenced by the
popular painters of the old Paris Salon such as William Adolphe Bouguereau
and Jean-Leon Gerome; the late Victorian painters Frederic, Lord Leighton
and Sir John William Waterhouse; and the American Impressionists John
Singer Sargent and William McGregor Paxton. The Work of today's Classical
Realist movement is realistic, but like the American Impressionists
of the last century, it seeks to combine the traditional studio methods
taught at the old Ecole des Beaux Arts with a thorough knowledge of
natural light and a rich, chromatic palette. |
