For more than fifty years, Eugene Garin has been one of the most sought-after names in American Marine painting. Howard Morseburg, the founder of Morseburg Galleries, "discovered" Garin in 1960, soon after his immigration to the United States. Garin was born in Odessa, capital of the Soviet Republic of Ukraine, in 1922. Growing up on the banks of the Black Sea, he studied with Peter Fedatov and was greatly influenced by the works of the great Russian marine artist Ivan Konstantinovich. After being captured by the Germans during world War II he escaped repatriation and emigrated to Argentina and eventually to California. Known for his stormy seas and translucent waves, Garin's works are scheduled to be the subject of a traveling exhibition in Russia.
